Study of hands
Reimagining one of my all time favourite works of art by the same name ‘Study of Hands’ by artist Nicolas de Largillière in 1715.
This recreation was spurred on by its concept being used as an album cover for a music collective that I belong to.
Since seeing in person at its current home in the Musée du Louvre in 2018, I have always wanted to recreate the image in my own way and realise it as a photographic image.
The Inspiration
Nicolas de Largillière // c.1715
In 2018 I visited Paris for a long weekend.
While in The Louvre I came across this image that immediately resonated with me.
Behind The Scenes
See how I shot the image.
The location I chose was a local chapel. I needed a space with a raised carpeted area, like an alter, to shoot.
This gave me an area to work with and get lights positioned at the correct height, but also gave the models somewhere comfortable, as they would be lying on the ground for quite some time.

Album Cover Design
While the album cover wasn’t the final design for OPIA, I’m happy that I got to bring this concept to life and recreate a piece of art that inspires me so much.
